How Vejibag Was Born: Sally’s Story and a Better Way to Store Produce

Vejibag started with Sally, a greenhouse, and a whole lot of vegetables.

Years ago, while living in Maine, Sally was growing her own food in a greenhouse and putting real care into cultivating fresh, beautiful produce. But as any gardener knows, growing the food is only half the battle. The bigger challenge was keeping all that hard-earned produce fresh once it was harvested.

Plastic bags didn’t work. They trapped moisture and caused greens to rot. Leaving vegetables loose in the fridge dried them out. Paper towels helped a little, but they were wasteful and inconsistent. Sally wanted a better way—something reusable, plastic-free, and practical—that would help preserve vegetables as long as possible.

So she started experimenting.

Designed from a Gardener’s Real-Life Need

Through trial and error, Sally discovered that vegetables last longest when they’re stored with the right balance of humidity and airflow. That insight led to the creation of Vejibag—a reusable produce storage bag made from breathable organic cotton.

The fabric allows excess moisture to escape while still keeping vegetables hydrated, creating a more natural environment for produce. Greens stay crisp longer. Herbs last weeks instead of days. Carrots and broccoli hold their texture instead of turning limp.

What started as a solution for homegrown vegetables quickly proved useful for store-bought produce too.

From Greenhouse to Grocery Store

Not everyone has a greenhouse—but everyone wants their produce to last longer.

Whether you’re growing your own food, shopping at the farmers market, or picking up groceries for the week, the challenge is the same: keeping vegetables fresh so they actually get eaten. Vejibags work just as well for kale from the garden as they do for spinach from the store.

Using a Vejibag is simple. Rinse your produce, place it in the bag, and store it in the fridge. No plastic. No complicated systems. Just a reusable produce storage solution that works with how vegetables naturally want to be stored.

From the beginning, Vejibag has been about reducing food waste, cutting down on single-use plastic, and making everyday kitchen habits more sustainable. It started with one grower’s need—but it’s a solution that fits easily into kitchens everywhere.

Thanks for joining us on our mission to reduce food and plastic waste!
